Management/Analysis

While we no longer offer Professional Engineering or project management services, SRM Projects has many years of past multi-discipline project engineering and leadership experience in the energy and industrial process sectors.  The projects listed below are some highlights.

Wind Energy Resource Assessment – Quatsino First Nation – Performed a mesoscale wind energy resource assessment to inform future commercial and off-grid development plans.

Solar PV Energy Assessment – Village of Zeballos – Completed conceptual designs, annual average energy generation and high level cost estimates for three potential solar PV candidate buildings.

Wind Energy Resource Assessment – Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation – Performed a mesoscale wind energy resource assessment to inform future commercial and off-grid development plans.

Renewable Energy Resource Assessment – City of Port Alberni – Performed a screening level resource assessment for hydro, wind, solar, biomass/biogas, geothermal, tidal and wave energy within City limits and within the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District.  The results of this work are informing Port Alberni’s plans to become GHG neutral and generate a portion of the energy they consume through sustainable means.

We Wai Kai Community Energy and Emissions Plan – Completed a community energy and emissions plan (CEEP) and clean energy screening studies for the We Wai Kai First Nation located near Campbell River, BC.  This project was similar in scope to the Snuneymuxw CEEP below.

100 kW Solar PV Energy Assessment – Nanaimo Ice Center – As part of our community work with Energy Solutions for Vancouver Island, we led an assessment of the solar PV generation potential for this large community building, including development of design criteria and conceptual designs, along with issuing RFP’s to vendors, assembly of capital cost estimates and preparation of a comprehensive report summarizing the findings.  Many communities are finding this kind of independent third party information invaluable in their sustainability planning.

Snuneymuxw Community Energy and Emissions Plan – Completed a community energy and emissions plan (CEEP) and clean energy screening studies for the Snuneymuxw First Nation located near Nanaimo, BC.  The CEEP included determining current residential, common facility and commercial energy use and emissions as well as developing future growth scenarios and recommendations to reduce energy use and emissions while allowing for economic development.  To read feedback we received from our project liaison, click here.

Winchie Creek Hydro Facility – Provided project management services for a 4MW run-of-river hydropower project, supervising the broad ranging preliminary assessment engineering and cost estimating work required to de-risk the project for the First Nations client.

Tidal Energy Investigative Activities – Managed the first phase of preliminary assessment work for SRM Project’s tidal energy R&D investigative sites in Discovery Passage, including resource assessment modeling and marine spatial planning studies.  Please see our Projects Research/Development page for the history of these exciting clean energy explorations.

Seymour Narrows - Google Earth View

The legendary Seymour Narrows

Tidal Energy Investigative License Applications – Completed Investigative License applications, polygon/location maps and Investigative Plan documents for 3 southern Vancouver Island, BC tidal energy sites for one of Canada’s then largest tidal energy development companies.

Resort Tidal Energy Pre-feasibility Assessment – Completed a screening level assessment to determine the order of magnitude potential for generating tidal power at a north Vancouver Island, BC resort.  The analysis was performed quickly, including a summary report, and provided the client with important preliminary decision making information at low cost.

Tidal Energy Site Assessment, Licensing and Investigative Activities – Completed preliminary assessments of feasibility for three promising tidal energy sites at south Discovery Passage, Seymour Narrows and Blackney Passage, Vancouver Island, BC and prepared and submitted Investigative License applications on behalf of SRM Projects Ltd.  Please see our Projects Research/Development page for the history of these exciting clean energy explorations.

Tidal Energy Investigative License Applications – Completed Investigative License application and Investigative Plan documents for 2 southeast Vancouver Island, BC and 3 Haida Gwaii, BC tidal energy sites.  These applications were subsequently accepted by the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and the developer worked to fulfill other requirements of the application process to achieve Investigative License award.

Dodd Narrows Tidal Energy, BC – Completed an assessment of the state of the tidal energy industry for the proponent as well as a review of available vendor technology, preparation and issue of a detailed RFP for marine hydrokinetic power generation equipment, review of proposals, preparation of comparison of equipment proposals for preliminary shortlisting, development of preliminary project schedule for government funding application and preparation of Investigative License documentation.

Dodd Narrows – currents to 9 knots

Tyson Creek Hydro Facility – Prepared mechanical scope of work and invitation to tender for installation of inlet valve, bifurcation header, pelton turbine, generator, cooling pumps, tailrace heat exchanger and hydraulic power unit for a 9.3 MW run-of-river hydropower plant.

Tyson Creek Pelton Turbine – Canyon Hydro

BC Hydro GMS G8 Isolated Phase Bus Upgrade – Developed quality assurance documentation to support the Prime Contractor inspection and test plan, and then completed and/or monitored the status of all required construction checking.

GM Shrum Generating Station, WAC Bennett Dam, Williston Lake, B.C.

Hydropower Water License Applications– Completed feasibility grade engineering study and preparation of preliminary site arrangements and water license application documents for three proposed generating facilities in the British Columbia north coast region.

North Coast Creek During Freshet

Sedan Creek Hydro– Provided project management services for an 8 MW run-of-river hydropower project in Gitwangak First Nation territory.  Developed a penstock hydraulic model for optimization and coordinated preliminary engineering, cost estimating and Development Plan permitting as well as ongoing hydrological and biological assessments.  Project budget $25MM.  To read what our associates said about working with SRM Projects, click here.
